Case Report: Ayurvedic Management of Anosmia and Ageusia Resulting from Chronic Sinusitis and Nasal polyp in a young Female

Abstract:
This case report presents the Ayurvedic management of anosmia (loss of smell) and ageusia (loss of taste) in a young female with a history of chronic sinusitis and nasal polyp.The treatment plan incorporated dietary changes, Ayurvedic Medicine and specific Panchakarma therapies. The patient experienced significant improvement in her symptoms over a one month period.
Patient Information:
A young female presented with a fifteen year history of chronic sinusitis, complicated by a recent onset of anosmia and ageusia. The patient reported difficulty breathing through the nose, frequent headaches, and a complete loss of smell and taste. She had been treated with multiple courses of antibiotics and nasal steroids without lasting improvement.

Clinical Findings:
The patient appeared well-nourished but distressed by her sensory loss. Vital signs were normal. An ENT examination revealed swollen nasal turbinates and mucosal congestion. There was no purulent discharge. A CT scan of the sinuses showed mucosal thickening consistent with chronic sinusitis

Therapeutic Focus and Assessment:
Dietary Modifications ,Panchakarma and Ayurvedic Medicine.

Follow-Up and Outcomes:
The patient was monitored bi-weekly for progress. After two weeks she reported partial improvement in smell and taste, as well as reduced nasal congestion and headaches. By the end of one month, she experienced a significant improvement in both anosmia and ageusia, with almost complete restoration of smell and taste. The patient also noted better breathing and fewer sinus-related symptoms.

Conclusion:
Ayurvedic management provides a promising alternative approach for patients suffering from anosmia and ageusia due to chronic sinusitis. This case report highlights significant improvements in sensory function and overall well-being, suggesting the potential of Ayurveda in treating such conditions.

Sharon - aged 20, was admitted with severe head injury in the Lakshmi Ayurveda hospital Tripunithura, on 15 /06/ ‘18. Wound healing through Ayurveda

Patient named Premavathy ,aged 56 yrs, came to our OPD with a huge boil and inflammed swollen limb.
Initially , topical application with internal medications were given and the patient was admitted in our IP ward.
Later, after the boil ruptured a deep wound with slough was present,with thorough wound dressing with ayurvedic modalities for a period of 1 month along with our internal medications ,the wound healed completely.
